The first round of ‘The 2010 Angler of the Year Ras Hamra Recreation Club’ competition was held last Thursday, 14^th January. This competition was generously sponsored by Oman Bicycle represented by Frans and Andrea Kohler.

The sea and temperature conditions were fabulous! A total of 26 eager fishermen joined the event, hoping for the daily prizes and the end of year Fisherman of the year title. Everyone hopes to de able to defeat the 2009 champion Suleiman Hajri. The fight was pretty tight for the points on that day with some very close scores. Thanks to the second good bottom fishing catch and the third biggest game fish catch, Herman Visser took the first position. He had an equal number point to Captain Pascal Richard, but a heavier total weight. The biggest fish of the day were, in fact, two groupers of 4.5 kg! Rare event which made one of the surprise of the day!

In term of prizes, the first and second overall prizes went to Herman Visser and Pascal Richard with 14 points. The first and second game fishing prizes went to Frans Kohler and Georg Warrlich, while the first and second bottom fishing prizes went to Talal Sultan and Seif Sawafi. The prize for the biggest fish of the day went to Suleiman Al Harthy and Pascal Richard for their 4.5 kg groupers.

With this first competition, Herman and Pascal are neck to neck, with Suleiman in ambush waiting for his time to come! Another 8 competitions to go! We wish all the best to all the Fishermen and Fisherwomen!
