February Newsletter 2019

MAIN COMMITTEE MESSAGE

The best time to visit Oman is between November and mid-March, when the cooler air brings the mountain scenery sharply into focus and daytime temperatures average 25oC with some rainy days. At RAHRC, this is the season when we experience member’s guests and family flocking to enjoy the pleasant weather by the beach or the swimming pool. The blustery winds, choppy waters and the pounding waves rolling and crashing on the shore have been unable to discourage our sailors/divers and lovers of the sea venturing into the deep and the sight of regular kayakers, fishermen and swimmers are a proof of this. Events and activities are full on during this time of the year.

 • Kinderfeest held on 2nd February organized by the Holland Section at the Volleyball court was well attended with 1210 tickets sold, no HSE concerns and for the first time this year 1 & 2 years old children, were able to participate in the Kinderfeest games and competitions.
 • Cricket Tournament on 15th and 16th February organized by the Cricket Section at the Sports hall. A well-attended family oriented fun day for children & adults, which consisted of the PDO Gas, PD, Feed Office and UDC Directorates. There were no HSE concerns.

WINDSURF SECTION

The windsurf section started the year with a new course for 5 learners. Not only did they have to deal with relatively low temperatures, also wind and wave conditions prevented water practice. A few follow-up sessions in the weekends following the original course weekend allowed for plenty of water practice, greatly appreciated by the learners! The windsurf section has seen arrival of two new BIC boards, slightly smaller than the standard learner boards. These will suit lighter people as well as those who are getting into harness use and plane sailing. Once outside the bay, the dagger boards can be retracted, allowing for higher speed at beam reach conditions.
